They say there are only two things certain in life. Death and Taxes! Let’s roll back to 2005, approximately 15 years ago. The process of filing of an Income-tax return involved complex procedures which encompasses multiple annexures and wait for a year or two to get the excess taxes paid as a refund. Today the Income Tax Department has gone completely paperless and transformed itself into a technologically driven, taxpayer oriented organisation. This financial year onwards, Department is geared up to reduce the refund timeline to one week or lesser. Already in many cases, processing has been done within 24 hours and the Department wants to make this as the benchmark from
next year. Many more features are in the offing.

How did this centralized Processing Centre (CPC) of the Income-tax Department achieve this? From 50K returns to 70 Million. What were the challenges? How did the Centralized Processing Center (CPC) for the Income Tax Department, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, achieve this? This success story is a saga of pioneering e-initiatives and technological achievements of an enforcement agency. A story worth telling and a story worth knowing. A peek into this journey awaits you this Friday.
